I store Apple Notes in iCloud, and access Notes from multiple devices, including two Macs. Today, one note disappeared from one Mac. That Mac could see the other notes, and the other Mac could see all the notes. What was that about?
I solved the problem (as far as I know) by copying the entire note that was missing from the one Mac, creating a new note, and pasting the clipboard into the new note. I then changed the first line slightly so it would be obvious which note was which. Both Macs saw the new note. Should I have done anything differently? Should I do anything to ensure the problem doesn’t repeat?
The computer that could see the note is a MacBook Air (M1, 2020) running macOS Big Sur 11.7.10.
The computer that did not see the note is an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) running macOS Mojave 10.14.6. In a fit of troubleshooting, I logged into this computer (the normal user is another person). I had not been logged in for a long time, and Notes took quite a while (but less than two minutes, probably less than one minute) to update. I was also unable to see the missing note, and one note that I had moved to a subfolder was still showing in the old location. (There might have been other anomalies.)
There is also a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) running macOS Big Sur 11.7.10. I edited a note on this computer; the MacBook Air did not see the change. Later, I edited the same note further, and then the MacBook Air did update the note.
In all cases, the users are non-Admin; it seems like that should not matter. (Certainly it has not mattered in the past.)
Thank you; that doesn’t seem to apply, for two reasons. The article seems focused on iOS, not macOS, and seems to imply that all notes go missing, not just one.
