Mellel has released version 6.6 of its eponymous word processor, featuring a new Citation Inspector window that provides a detailed view of references used in your document from within Mellel. You’ll see all reference details, attachments, notecards, and annotations (requires Bookends 15.2.4 or later), and you will be able to filter annotations and notecards by text as well as filter by color. The update also adds an Auto Expander feature that lets you define shortcuts for frequently used or hard-to-enter text, updates the Template Chooser with a a cleaner design and more functionality, resolves an issue that caused choosing Index > New Record & Mark in the contextual menu to create an index record but not mark, improves handling of bullet lists in DOCX imports, fixes a bug that caused some toolbar item labels to overflow in the German localization, and addresses several memory leaks. ($69.99 new, free update, 109.5 MB, release notes, macOS 10.13+)
There are some very intriguing future possibilities for the Auto Expander feature, as posted by Eyal on the Mellel board. This feature could soon be a replacement for the Glossary feature of Nisus Writer Pro.
Unicode characters as codes** - to allow entering unicode characters as codes. For example you could enter \u05D0 into the text and get “Alef”

For example, you might enter something like “Dear \field-name,” and when you enter the shorcut, you will be presented with a dialog where you can fill the “name” field and this will be entered as “Dear ,”
Sets- group snippets into named sets that can be turned on or off
Completion Display - As you type, possible option for available shortcus appear. For example you type ‘d’ and you see all sorts of shorctus that start with d
Expansion Stats - Show how many times you’ve used a snippet
Trigger on word Break - trigger the expansion when you type a space or punctuation mark or return. This allow using shortcuts that are part of a word so that typing the word won’t cause the text to expand prematurly.

Figures - Allow a snippet to insert an image
Insert Mellel Elements - Use a snippet to insert Mellel elements like Auto-titles, Citations, Footnotes/Endnotes
