It did indeed make more sense back when they were the California Angels or the Angels of Anaheim. These days, the few fans they have would cheer for the Halos anyway. ![]()
I live about an hour from there. Temecula has some of the best wineries and wine-related resorts in southern California. But I would agree that’s about all it has (unless you count sky diving and hot air balloons). “Armpit of CA” is a bit harsh, I think. Maybe more like the back of the knee.
Back of the knee. ![]()
Well apparently, Temecula also produces great softball players. And Max Muncy I believe grew up right next door in Murrieta. So as far as I’m concerned that area is just peachy.
It has to be Shasta! ![]()
No, it hasta to be Shasta
I asked ChatGPT to come up with a short list, and Shasta was in the top five (for what that’s worth). Also in the list is my new favorite (assuming Zzyzx is a lost cause): Malibu.
I just asked ChatGPT, and this is the top five list it came up with:
- Redwood
- Shasta
- Mendocino
- Carmel
- Point Reyes
When I asked it about Eureka, it said it liked it for the following reasons: “‘Eureka’ has the rare advantage of being both a place name and a word that subtly communicates innovation, which is exactly the kind of double meaning Apple’s marketing team often appreciates.”
It then revised the top five list as follows:
- Eureka
- Redwood
- Shasta
- Carmel
- Mendocino
Generally speaking, I associate the name “Shasta” with the brand of soda pop, so I wouldn’t like that one. But Malibu would be nice, and Carmel too.
MacRumors has their own speculation, based on recent trademark filings.
It’s official - WWDC announced that the nane will be:
macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Alas, no winners this year! My money was on Shasta.
Nah, Shasta is soda pop. ![]()
Some day, my macOS Eureka will come. . . .
Well, at least when they revealed the name as “Golden Gate”, they panned past some weed in the minivan!
Well I would have never guessed a two word OS (except for big sur) and not a place but an object of sorts. I think Shasta woudda been the way to go.

That’s a common misconception.
Golden Gate is a place. It’s a strait and it’s been here for longer than humans have roamed the Earth.
The Golden Gate Bridge is the object. Built 1933-1937.
Interesting. And all this time I thought it was a strait. ![]()

Thank you for pointing that out. Fixed.
