macOS 27 name prediction

Or “Bahston” - “pahk your cah at Hahvahd Yahd”

I think Apple will go for the alphabetical apocalypse, and name the next OS after California’s quaint little town of Zzyzx. The default background image for macOS 27 Zzyzx will be the classic exit sign off I-15:

I’m still ticked they ruled out Weed, California!

I’ve always thought MacOS 10.9 should have been named “Smilodon”!

I was hoping for “Serval”. Just so we could have had “OS X Serval Server”.

Yes, that is good. However the naming theme was “Big Cats” and the Serval is considered a “Small Cat” unfortunately.

I didn’t know that Apple was going to violate software numbering convention and figured that 10.9.x would be the last of the version 10 series, thus going out with a bang with Smilodon.

Maybe there is room for ‘fantasy macOS names’ for the version numbers 16-25 that were oversprung and didn’t get their 15 minutes of fame. Or should that be a new Topic…

It doesn’t look that beat-up anymore:

Love it, I’ve actually seen Mt. Shasta. But on an Apple note, I thought with the unifying (year) number names now that they were doing away with the “descriptive” physical names…?

26 still has a name, Tahoe, so at least for now they’re continuing with the names even with the year version number. Obviously that’s a sample of one, and they could change for 27, but they’ve been doing it for so long I’d guess they’d continue (although WDIK :man_shrugging:).

However the naming theme was “Big Cats” and the Serval is considered a “Small Cat” unfortunately.

But pumas/cougars are small cats. The decider is the anatomy of the vocal cords. Big cats roar, small cats purr. And cougars have a -wonderful- deep purr.

I don’t think Apple considered them as “small”; after all they used “Mountain Lion” which is just another name for what are called a puma or cougar in other states.

But to get back to a name for MacOS 27, I’ll stick with “Weed” as my 1st choice but for 2nd, “It hasta be Shasta”.

Would MacOS Smilodon have especially robust Bluetooth?

I always thought that Apple should have used small cat names for iOS releases. But they didn’t ask my opinion.

There’s a part of me that thinks, based on certain questionable interface decisions lately, “Salton Sea” might be appropriate…

I’ve been waiting for macOS Eureka since we were guessing on Ventura’s successor. Patience is a virtue.

The codenames for the next OS are in various states of leakage… these are from Macworld. Who knows the final outcome… perhaps, going for the photogenic… Point Reyes?

Or macOS Temecula.
My softball buddy who’s originally from Temecula assures me it’s the armpit of CA.

Don’t get me started on “PIN number.”
