Is original Perplexity history?

This inquiry isn’t about an Apple/Mac issue, and it may be old news, so I apologize if I’m off base.

The desktop version of Perplexity now shows a warning: “We’ve released a new Perplexity Mac app with support for Personal Computer. Your current app will stop working in the coming weeks. Please download the latest version to continue using Perplexity.”

Perplexity Personal Computer “… is overkill for simple prompts” https://cybernews.com/ai-tools/perplexity-computer-review/, i.e., vastly more than I need (and it’s expensive).

Are the days of just “Ask anything…” gone?

Amusingly, in addition to the application, Perplexity provided a comprehensive list of ~/Library folders to examine for file deletion and instructions to remove account data and a host of other items. No hard feelings there!

Thank you for any feedback.

The website is simple and accepts prompts. That’s mostly how I use Perplexity.

Agree with Gordon above.

I use the Brave browser and go to perplixity.com.
Then type in my question or search. Works fine.

Ha! I live in a cave. I’ve never used the web browser version, never even thought about it.

Many thanks.

I use perplexity.ai not .com, and it was working for me an minute ago.

The new Perplexity app has two modes, the Computer agentic one and the same mode you had before. It defaults to the Computer one but a simple click reverts to the mode you’re familiar with.

Thank you Tommy, I will check it out. It’s a minor thing, but I do prefer desktop apps over having to open a web browser. I wish Perplexity had mentioned somewhere about the dual modes.

I stand corrected about perplexity.

It does use “.ai” instead of “.com” …
