iOS 17.6.1 App Store woes

@ant Same here. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

I have exactly the same experience on all my devices. But I suppose it’s not common cause most people just use auto-update. But without it, updating became a disaster right after 17.6.1.

I don’t use auto-update cause sometimes updates push something unwanted (I would use a per-app setting if there was one, cause I have a LOT of apps).

First, my iPad 6th gen 2018 was on some iPadOS 17 (did not write it down) and I updated it to the latest iPadOS 17.6.1. Was updating apps manually right before and right after the iOS update, so it did strike me as odd. Now, if I send a few (like 5+) apps updating at once, it crashes soon, and much of those apps are still not updated afterwards. “Oh well”, I thought, “my iPad seems too old now, it doesn’t have much RAM, I guess I’ll have to update apps one by one from now on”.

And then I updated my iPhone 13 mini from the latest 16 to 17.6.1. And oh boy, it’s just the same. I send a few apps updating, come back - app store not loaded, most apps not updated. Unusable.

I also noticed another thing that reproduces in both devices - it does not load the apps list as fast as it was. I have a red counter around 600, and when I click on account and scroll down - there is nothing. I have to wait for a while, or to drag to refresh and wait. This wasn’t an issue in any previous version with the same number of pending updates.

I know that my usage is non-conventional, but this bug is still annoying and should not exist.
Do any of you “manual-updaters” experience the same with much smaller amount of apps?

Should I report this somewhere properly? Although obviously I’ll just get an advice to update iPhone to iOS 18 (which I (willfully) will do next year if not later). And I can’t update my old iPad to 18 even if I wanted to. Will probably try 17.7 soon, but doubt it helps.

I had a lot of corner case bugs in my lifetime (bedtime ghost alarm, safari window vanishing on specific merge direction, etc), but this is just another level.

@enchained updating to 17.7 did not fix this issue for me. I’m “lucky” in that my iPad Pro seems to be ok. It only affects my iPhone 13. But this bug is extremely annoying and makes updating apps a trying experience.

Do you know whether Feedback Assistant (applefeedback:// in Safari) works for non-beta iOS? It loads for me and allows to fill the report, but not sure if it’ll allow sending it - anyway, I should probably update to 17.7 first, and maybe try recording a video of the bug. In fact, there are a few separate app store bugs in one, probably should be reported separately. And once from each device, maybe even affected friends and family devices too

Dunno what else to do, anyway. At least that feedback app is able to send some logs with it. Will try to remember the crash time next time, maybe I’ll even find something relevant there, in the sysdiagnose thing.

@enchained i think I found a temporary workaround. If you select several apps (I have tried with up to 5) and click Update. Wait for them to update and for the button to change to Open. Don’t update any more until all the updated apps move down into the already updated apps section (it can take a while). Then you can repeat the process with other apps until you have finished updating. Has worked for me so far.
