I mainly use the TV app on my iPad to view my Home Video collection…over 100 including converted cine films going back to the 1950s.
The Home Videos appear in the TV app without any file names or identification, making it very difficult to find a particular one. Even clicking the three dots does not show any info. On the TV app on Mac there is an option to view as Thumbnail or List (of file names and other info), but on the iPad I can’t see this option.
I’ve used software like Ivi Pro to add movie data and poster screen.
There may be similar programs out there, but I have used this for a while and it will add the genre, title, actors, etc.
P.S. I was picking the landscape posters to view on my AppleTV, but now Apple has decided that a movie poster should be the size and dimensions of an iPhone. Is there a way to change that?
Thanks very much Ray. There is something odd going on with IVIPro. The links on that page don’t go anywhere, and it is not available on the App Store in my country (UK). The reviews on Macupdate imply it doesn’t exist anymore.
I was hoping for some way of doing this that didn’t involve doing it individually to 130 movies…like making File name visible as in the TV app on Mac.
Since posting I think a better solution for me is probably importing them all to my Photos Library where they have thumbnails and filenames and I can organise. Also view them on my TV using the Apple TV device.
I wonder if anyone in the UK knows of a similar app? It basically takes videos, uses the title or keywords to look up the movie in several online databases, then inserts the info. You can then choose to convert the video, or if you have it in a version that can run on AppleTV, just insert the data and import it into Apple TV.
You may want to look for apps in your AppStore that can do it, or if others here know of another app that does something similar.
Thanks Jeffrey, Yes the mac version of the TV app enables editing the title, but the titles do not show in grid view, as my screen shot in the OP. All my home videos already have meaningful titles which I can see in List view, but not in Grid view, or on my iPad where List view is not an option.
