Oh yeah, give it a shot. Made the world of difference on my daughter’s phone.
Absolutely, everything has an impact and there’s no way to generalise what activities are necessary and which aren’t. My extreme disappointment with iPhone MagSafe (iMagSafe?) and Qi charging is that what we need are systemic changes to make it easier for people to reduce energy usage. And these standards go in the opposite way.
This wasn’t inevitable, it simply shows extreme carelessness and misaligned priorities by the companies developing the standards. Look no further than the iPads and their Smart Connectors for the kind of convenient alternative that could have been developed which would have avoided the massive energy waste.
Update: that’s exactly what the issue was. As I should have known right away. Thanks for reminding me.
Nice! Excellent result.
The more I read about wireless charging waste, the less I like it. I’ve disconnected mine, about $30 worth of wireless chargers (old tech, on sale, cheap), and gone back to plugging the iPhone in to charge (which I have done all along with my iPad anyway.) Does my one iPhone matter? Not really. But if tens of millions of users stop using these things (except, maybe in certain places like a car for day to day, multi stop driving), the savings will be significant.
It is not that big a deal to plug in.
Oh my god, I have to plug a little wire in my phone to charge it?! Too exhausting… Puleeez…
The SODI Continuity Camera Mount for Desktop Monitor & iMac you mention does work with an Apple MagSafe charger, but only with an old 15W model. The newer Apple MagSafe chargers won’t work with it. You can still find the old model Apple MagSafe chargers on eBay.
