If you attended the San Francisco MacWorld Netters’ Dinners in the 90’s and 00’s, an article on the 50th anniversary of the Hunan Restaurant and its branches may be of interest.
In the article, the author (a family member and now restaurant columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle) discusses his family and the restaurant’s origins.
Ahh, that brings back memories. Assembling in the lobby, walking in the cool SF evening with Adam and Tonya (pretty sure Tristan was still a twinkle the last time I went), watching the antics of Kee Nethery (sp?) and Jon Pugh. And some really good food!
And I still miss the Ice Cream Socials our Fearless Leader Adam Engst developed for TidBits Talkers for MacWorld or its equivalent in New York City. It was lots and lots of fun to be hanging out with Mac fans you were writing and reading with.
And just about anyone involved in printing and publishing went head over heels about the Seybold Shows. I remember being told by my boss I had to go to Apple’s unveiling of Color Spaces for Macs.
If you were working in print media at the time, the idea that big, super clutzy, heavy and super expensive Pantone books and chips would be overtaken by a new little Mac with a new little built in 4/color mixer app really and truly helped change the publishing world. Same-O for other industries, included, but not imitated to cars, clothing, indoor and outdoor house painting, makeup, etc, etc., etc.
I was totally shocked to see that a little tiny Mac could manage an infinite range of colors, etc.
