I’m decades beyond “Gen Z,” so I’ll never attempt to attack my iMessage composition window with two thumbs. But I DO often attempt “swipe to type,” and always end up cursing the interface, because as soon as I enter a word (precisely) that’s not in its dictionary, it refuses to recognize my spelling and substitutes another totally unrelated word that shares a few random characters.
Is THIS something that AI LLMs will or already fixes?
In my experience, it will offer what I typed out (if typing letter tap by letter tap) as the left most suggestion. If I tap on that it inserts that word as typed.
I have also started trying to improve my typing by using swipe. In general it works quite ok for me. But I have to make sure to stop swiping and instead tap letter by letter when I know I’m about to use a word it doesn’t know. And of course that means I’d need to know for sure beforehand what it knows and what it doesn’t.
And that’s what I’m wondering: will the addition of AI make the spell corrector intelligent enough to make reasonable guesses regarding what i meant when my fingertip slipped?
Yes, but those early devices had actual “keys,” VERY different from swipe to type in execution (and in the potential ability of AI to improve sloppy swiping of words not even in the OS dictionary.
