Dark mode finally activates 4.5 hours after sunset

I happened to be using my ARM iMac to view my iPhone at sunset. The iPhone turned to dark mode, and my desk lamp brightened (home automation). Neither the iMac nor my ARM MBPro switched to dark mode. Forty minutes later, the MBPro switched, but the iMac still did not. Finally the iMac switched while I had been using it for half an hour, at about 9:30, 4h30m after sunset.

The iPhone turns dark at the stroke of sunset; the Macs don’t. What should be happening? What am I missing?

Not likely to be causing the problem, but quick to do: double-check the iMac’s time zone and location.

Thanks, good out-of-the-box thinking, but both machines are set to automatic and are correct.
