For incremental OS updates such as 10.14.3 to 10.14.4, is there an advantage anymore in using a combo updater vs the App Store version?

Not sure what you mean by advantage, but I don’t think anything has changed in this regard. The advantage most often mentioned is that it will give you a fresh copy of everything that has changed since the initial release in case something has become compromised since then. The chances of that are small but more likely for beta testers that have had multiple small updates along the way. I usually recommend that as a first step in trying to fix sudden issues that involve the OS before doing a complete re-install from Recovery. I know some users that always wait for the Combo update rather than using Software Update patches.
