Color Printing Capability

Nope…but then the group isn’t going to pay for the cartridges and the IT department…me…doesn’t want the hassle of the user…my bride…complaining that it doesn’t work and come fix it now please every time she wants to print to it. Yes…the laser probably costs more on the long term…but in the great scheme of things we aren’t talking big money, we can afford it, and happy wife happy life.

If she earned it, she should be able to spend her money however she wants.

It’s the old “give away the razor, sell the blades” strategy.

Yes, but that’s actually a good strategy here. Most people will be more willing to pay $300 up front for a printer and then $400 every 18 months or so for toner than to pay $3000 up front for the printer and $100 a year for supplies.

This strategy only becomes a problem when your device’s price is pushed so low that quality suffers. Which is known to be the case for some ink-jet printers (especially those that sell for under $100).
