CarPlay Ultra Debuts with Aston Martin, but Broader Support Remains Elusive

The worst part is why car companies don’t want CarPlay Ultra: they want to use their own systems so they can charge subscriptions!

…many other carmakers are developing their own infotainment system in the hope of generating more revenue from in-car services and vehicle data.

There is no way on earth I’d ever buy a car that requires a subscription to activate certain features.

I currently drive a GM car. I wouldn’t consider a GM car again given their intent on having their own, paid service.

It makes me think we’ll eventually see all products become lease or rentals - perhaps in my lifetime. You’ll no longer buy a car, camera, fridge, TV or computer - you’ll lease or subscribe to them. Horrifying.
