Can Agentic Web Browsers Count?

The Verge’s Victoria Song has an article about using agentic browsers to research and buy a product. It’s a good article and a good test of something the AI companies claim can be aided by AI. The conclusion:

Ultimately, my question was not which AI browser you should use, but whether any of them are worth your time and energy. This was a journey to see whether any of them live up to the hype.

The short answer: they don’t.

She comes up with the best strategy for those not trying to test AI browsers in the last sentence of the article:

I’ve decided to just visit a New Balance store in person.

Although I don’t focus on sneakers for walking, I talk with people a lot about running shoes, and the answer is always to go to a dedicated running store that carries multiple brands, talk with knowledgeable salespeople, and try things on. That’s not necessary or possible with many products, but with shoes, it will work a lot better than mucking around on the Internet.
