Billions of logins for sites such as Google and Facebook leaked, compiled online

Seems a bit sensational but Cybernews appears to credible …

I am guessing that many of the logins are out-of-date or no longer used.

If it’s a compilation of prior hacks, how many of them were we already alerted to (and therefore already took measures about?).

Indeed. There have been a couple of similar, relatively superficial stories in recent months. It’s hard to judge these stories with respect to the extent of new compromises vs the repackaging of old ones.

In 2025, I’m not really concerned if the world knows what I was using as a password for my MySpace account in 2005.

I think the only real utility of this coverage is to encourage people to turn on multi-factor authentication whenever possible.
