I am/was running Microsoft Office 2011 on my MacPro using macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave). I recently swapped out the SSD and replaced it with a larger SSD. Of course, this breaks the licensing because it is tied to the storage device, not the computer or account. None of this is news to me–I knew this would happen.
Some years ago, I downloaded versions of Office 365 from the Mac App store (MAS). Without a subscription they worked in Read-Only mode and that suited my needs at the time. Now, however, I would like to activate these MAS apps. And, therein, lies the problem.
Supposedly, one can activate through the MAS–or you could in the past. When I try to activate from within the app it gives me a choice through Microsoft or to Restore Subscription through the MAS with my AppleID. The latter fails because I never purchased the subscription.
Any ideas on whether the MAS method still works?
Thanks for any insight.
