some TidBITS & TidBITS-Talk in Google Spam

Curtis Wilcox
My address is a Gmail account I use exclusively to be subscribed to TidBITS (plain text edition) and TidBITS-Talk. I use "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" in Gmail to forward everything to my "real" address (and archive it). I realized I was missing list messages and logging in on the web, I found a number of them in this account's Spam folder; I didn't even know the forwarding feature wouldn't forward spam.

The oldest message marked as spam was from Betty Fellows [hidden email] on July 5th, Google says "It has a from address in yahoo.com but has failed yahoo.com's required tests for authentication." It looks like every other message was put in Spam because "It's similar to messages that were detected by our spam filters."

All the individual TidBITS Articles to this list have been making it through but TidBITS#1377 did not. Generally, it's been whole threads just in the past week that have been caught. For some reason, none of Marilyn Matty's messages were, those making it through are what tipped me off that it wasn't simply a quiet week.

To deal with this, in addition to marking everything in Spam as Not Spam, I've added two filters that should keep everything flowing:

Filter #1 (for issues)

Filter #2

Skip the Inbox (Archive it)
Mark as read
Forward it to: <<real address>>
Never send it to Spam

Other people who use Gmail may also have messages in spam (though those that do may not get this message), creating a filter on the web for the list address that takes no action except "Never send it to Spam" should deal with it.
