iPhone sound/speakers not working

dianed143@comcast.net
I was outside changing my tires this morning, listening to a podcast. About 10 minutes in it got a bit softer which I figured was a technical issue on their end. As I was working I realized it had stopped but figured it finished. I came back in, the phone rang and I answered it and couldn’t hear a single thing.

I now realize that my sound isn’t working. I can activate Siri but I can’t hear anything.

Sound is on. If I play a voice mail and put it on speaker, I can hear it faintly. I cannot hear it if I put the phone up to my ear.

I’ve reset the phone to no avail.

I’ve tried to play music but it’s telling me it’s playing through the headphones which I don’t think is right.

If I go into music the options on the bottom are Headphones or my Airport.

Trying to to adjust volume on the buttons also brings up the slider that says headphones.

I can put headphones in and they do work, as does my bluetooth speaker.

So I guess it’s my speaker that flaked out?

Any suggestions?

iPhone SE
iOS 11.1.2

Thanks
Diane

Try some compressed air in the headphone jack? Possibly some debris or fuzz in there.

Did you turn off the little switch next to the Volume buttons? If it shows an orange band, you turned sound off.

I think the headphone port got wet. I found a page that had a bunch of things to try and it looks like I’m pulling some drops out of it. :( The flap on my case ripped off awhile ago and I’ve been too lazy to swap it out. And it is snowing.

I can’t see any debris but I do hear something moving if I shake it. I can’t pinpoint it though.

I have it in rice now. So sad. I missed the Applecare cutoff on it too.

Has anyone used PULS for repairs? Or Staples? It doesn’t sound like the Apple Store will fix this?

Thanks
Diane

Make an appointment to take it to the genius bar at the Apple Store to check out.

It’s on. I’m pretty familiar with that switch, it gets moved at least once a day.

Even with it off, it would still play music and Siri would talk.
