Amazon Prime Video Comes to Apple TV

Yes, Virginia, there is an Amazon Prime Video app on the Apple TV. You’ll have to search for it in the App Store because it’s so new that it’s not yet featured anywhere. Once you’ve installed it on your Apple TV, you can browse without logging in, but unsurprisingly, to watch anything, you’ll need to sign in to your Amazon account.

After that, it looks pretty much as you’d expect, with a set of links across the top. Search is most prominent, followed by a link to the main Home screen for browsing. Then it lists various content collections (including Originals, Movies, TV, and Kids), purchased items in Video Library, things you’ve marked for later in Watchlist, and Settings.

Individual shows show up in horizontally scrolling lists organized by various categories, much like the Netflix app, and clicking any one of them displays more information about the show and lets you play it.

We’ll be exploring the Amazon Prime Video app more, but let us know in the comments if you find any unexpected features.

Just as an FYI, it also is on my Apple TV 3rd generation. I had to use the menu option to restart the Apple TV to get it to show up, but it's not just on the 4th gen from the App Store.

So we’ve heard! That’s very cool and we’re updating the article.

cheers... -Adam

I have two TVs (both 4th Gen) and neither were able to download the Amazon Prime app because both were running tvOS version 10.2.2.

I found this odd, since both are set to autoupdate.

Also, neither showed a update available.

In order to update I have to enable beta builds on one of the TVs.

This caused the other TV to also update, and then apps synced between machines (but not the login data for Prime Video).

Some apps that had not been installed for quite awhile were reinstalled onto both TVs, but removing them isn't a big deal.

I have one set to autoupdate and one set to manual. The autoupdate one updated by itself to 11.2. The manual one I updated to 11.2. Had no issues with Amazon Prime.

Sounds to me like a vague issue I had a year or so ago. I ended up calling AppleCare. I don't remember the details but they sent me a USB C cable and I had to install software via the USB C to get things working properly again.
