Ringtones

sinarades
I have tried to keep up with the many posts regarding the iTunes 10.7 upgrade.  I believe this issue was discussed previously but I was never able to discern an explanation specific to the ringtone issue.

I was going to hold off making any changes to iTunes and/or iOS but I had a problem with my iPhone 7+ which seems to have forced my hand.  Apple sent a replacement and I was able to install my apps, settings and passwords via an encrypted iTunes backup … except for my ringtones.

My particulars:

MBP w/ OS 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.6.2.20
iPhone 7+ w/ iOS 10.3.3 and iTunes ??
iPad Pro w/ iOS 10.3.3 and iTunes ??

Custom ringtones are available on the MBP and iPad Pro but missing from the new iPhone.  I don’t have a clue as to why they would not still be available on the iPhone.

So, any thoughts as to what happened in my iPhone 7+ restore process?  Is the omission of user created ringtones for the iPhone intentional and here to stay or is it an upgrade fluke that will be corrected in the near future?  Is this a naked ploy by Apple to increase iTune Store ringtone sales?  Why would a new phone using iOS 10.3.3 not keep the ringtones included in an encrypted backup?

My ringtones were created from my iTunes library with an app called “Ringtone”.  It has not been upgraded since 2013 and by all indications won’t be available with iOS 11.  Even though I only use three or four at a time, I have 142 ringtones.  I thought I might add some more before I lose the functionality of the app but if we are at the end of easily useable custom ringtones, there’s no point in creating more.

Connect phone to computer and select the phone in iTunes.

In the left sidebar, select "Tones"

You will see the tones that are on your phone and you can add tones from the list or by dragging them in to the window.
