Emoticons not expanding in Mail

dianed143@comcast.net
I don’t know when this started happening, maybe in the Sierra upgrade? But anytime I type an emoticon it is not expanding on my screen anymore. Kind of like things were 20 years ago. I sent an email to someone with a couple and when they replied, they are not in there either.

Seems to be a waste to have to bring up the emoji symbol box and look for what I want when I know all the basic ones. :(

Anyone else?

:) ;) :p - nothing expands on my end.

Diane

These only would "expand" if you had them set in Keyboard -> Text -> Replace

I use an app called Rocket on my Mac to quickly expand based on a Slack-like :+word expansion.

:grin -> 😁
:stuck-out-tongue -> 😛

(I actually type :ton and then select the right one)

<matthewpalmer.net/rocket/>

The app is free with a $5 purchase that unlocks some extra features.

(I do have some emojis set in Keyboard Prefs, like llap for 🖖. and :shrug: for  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
