Apple Verification for 3rd Party email apps is denied and will not be supported by Apple!

"John Turner the Bear😎"
I have been trying for months to get the iCloud to backup the email that I get & send through my email app Spark. I have spent literally spent hours with Apple Techs and Senior Advisors go get it to work. Just now I spent the last 20 minutes talking to a friend at Apple who is a systems engineer, and has been at Apple for a lot of years. He just told me, what I have suspected for sometime now, that Apple will NOT support 3rd Party email apps period. If you manage to get in fine…it was an accident…you got through without being noticed…but there is not  now, and never will be support, for 3rd Party email apps, despite that they are sold on the App Store and loved by many!

My friend was well aware of the many problems with Mail but said there is likely to be no major fixes until HighSierra.

How comforting that the company I have loved and supported since the Mac Plus came out, has decided not to work with its supporters in matters like these.

That’s strange. In fact, Airmail just received 2017 Apple Design Award.

I’m currently running Airmail on my Mac mini with High Sierra beta 3 installed because, oddly enough, Apple’s own Mail has a few glitches. Airmail has been working very well. I also tried out Spark without a problem. Sorry to hear you’ve been having difficulties with it.

Just my two cents, for what it’s worth.

All I can say is that I have never been able to get Spark and iCloud to be compatible. I was flat out told in no uncertain terms that the 3rd party apps are not supported.

How did you get Spark to work? You can backup your settings but not your mail…so far as my experience has shown.

I’ve got to try Airmail now! I really wish that I could understand why I am having these problems.

Re: Apple Verification for 3rd Party email apps is denied and will not be supported by Apple!

Curtis Wilcox
You may be talking about two different things. Are you trying to get Spark to use an iCloud email account or are you trying to get email from a non-Apple email account backed up to iCloud storage? Apple has IMAP details for iCloud email accounts so using 3rd party email apps with an iCloud account is allowed. They will, however, require an app-specific password to access it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple doesn't let 3rd party apps back up to iCloud storage (iCloud email doesn't need to be backed up, it's already there). I don't really use iCloud much but apparently Scanbot on my phone is allowed to save to iCloud storage; no non-Apple apps on my Mac are listed. If Spark can store its local cache of email in an arbitrary folder, maybe you could put it within Documents/ and have it synced to iCloud storage as part of iCloud drive?

Finally! I have a 3rd email app that will backup to the iCloud and affords 0 problems! It took may be 10 minutes to setup and that was it. The name of the app Airmail 3.0 and it was suggested by my Friends on Tidbits!

I will have to contact Apple Support on Monday and talk to the people I spoke to. I have the entire conversation. I do not understand why there has been such a problem! All I know is that I am a HAPPY CAMPER now.

This app is great! I can even choose the font I want to use and size too.

Thanks everyone!
