Apple TV Language Localization

Tom Gewecke
This a request for help from anyone who has the latest version of the Apple TV running tvOS 11 and might be willing to check the lists of languages found in the Settings for user interface and subtitles.

I publish a simple web page with the basic info on MacOS/iOS language capabilities

https://thgewecke.github.io/mlingmac/m10lmac13.html

but my Apple TV is ancient, and Apple for some reason never publishes language specs for this device.  One particular question is whether tvOS 11 does have Arabic/Hebrew on those lists.  Up to now, Apple TV did not support these languages, and some thought they would be added in the latest update.

I’d be grateful for any help regarding the full lists or the Arabic/Hebrew issue which anyone could provide.

Hi Tom,

My Apple TV 4th Generation, with tvOS 11.2 (15K106) has the following language choices.

English (U.S.)
English (Canada)
English (Australia)
English (U.K.)
Spanish (US) (periods are missing in US, seems odd)

That's all.

That’s for Siri, but there is also a Language and Region section of preferences that seems to have almost every country in its list (including Israel, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Palestinian Territories, and Saudi Arabia). I did see Hebrew and Arabic as possible languages. Changing the region and/or language does require a reboot, and I was too chicken to try. For all I know, the Siri choices may change for a different region.

Thanks!

The list under settings > general > apple tv language

should be something like the following if they have finally made tvOS as complete as iOS:

English (Australia, UK, U.S.), Chinese (Simplified, Traditional, Traditional Hong Kong), French (Canada, France), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish (Latin America, Mexico, Spain), Arabic, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese

Hi Tom,

Sorry for only doing Siri before, and Thanks to Alan for pointing it out.

Following is a link to a folder (Apple TV Gen 4 tvOS 11.2 Language & Region Screenshots) in dropbox with Apple TV Screen Shots of the complete Language list (Apple TV Language Screenshots) with United States selected as the region, and another folder (Apple TV Region Screenshots) with the complete list of Regions.

I also put all the screenshots for each into separate PDF's Apple TV Language Screenshots.pdf & Apple TV Region Screenshots.pdf and OCRed them. That may make it easier for you to copy & paste any new ones.

Here is the link -> https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zxm5x05vh7s2gy7/AAA4DkIp17SUwMYJx4ImYuGka?dl=0

I hope that helps.
