Apple Mail problems

Kathy Pryor
Any idea when Apple Mail would just quit searching??????

Today, it has starting only searching email that has been received today.  The entire email database is no longer in the search.

Help.  I use this all the time.

I am running 10.13.3 on my MacBook Pro.
How do you reset the search?

Re: Apple Mail problems

David Rostenne
Hi Kathy,

There are a few things you can do.. none of them are the exact solutions, but will hopefully do the trick;

Quickly rebuild mailboxes to update the messages in it.
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mail/rebuild-mailboxes-mlhlp1227

• Select a mailbox in the Mail sidebar, then choose Mailbox > Rebuild

This will empty the mailbox and rebuild it from the server. Don’t panic!

The other option is to do a clean up Mail's index of all your emails, using the vacuum command. Make sure to quit Mail, then open up Terminal (ask spotlight for it..) and paste in:

sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/V5/MailData/Envelope\ Index vacuum;

Then hit return. That will take a minute or two. Once it is done you can relaunch Mail.

Let me know if that does not resolve it.. and I can look for other solutions!

Cheers,

Dave
