Apple Keeps Bugging Me - Fix Possible

John Ferman-2
Now that iOS 11 is out Apple keeps telling me to upgrade. This is undesired, because too many really useful apps get disabled. So how can I turn off Apple cobtinual badgering?

Good question. I was bitten back when audiobooks were removed from iTune.

You cannot, though I would not call it continual badgering. The update will be downloaded to your phone and will take up space until you install it. If you delete it, it will be downloaded again. You will have a red "1" badge on your settings app, and you will be reminded a few times to upgrade, but not ten times or dozens of times or anything like that.

Consider that any apps you are still holding onto at this point have been abandoned by their developers and that there are likely newer, supported apps from other developers that will work in iOS 11. Or, in many cases, a newer app from the same developer (for example, Airfoil from Rogue Amoeba which I had a 32-bit version of because I'd missed the change to a new app that was 64-bit, or Orbital D which was never updated because the iPhone version was updated to be universal, so the iPad app was abandoned.

Bitten? How?

Audibooks were moved to iBooks, where they belong.

iTunes plays through my cars MMI (Multi-Media Interface), via the iTunes interface on my phone (i.e. there is a hand shake between iOS iTunes and my cars MMI). During iOS8 upgrade the category of audiobooks was removed from iTunes. iBooks and CarPlay came out after the release date of the my cars MMI.

Everything Apple has ever moved from iTunes to iBooks has had all user-generated metadata discarded without notice or permission. “Date Added” becomes the date of data move and the original date is discarded. iBooks has no Smart Collections (Playlists), overlapping collections, or other useful metadata editing capability. This makes iBooks a less than ideal venue for any user-owned data.
