Apple Configurator 2.x Availability

Papa Gordie
I hope this does not stray off topic for the List.

Usually I save a number of earlier versions of software but do not have Apple Configurator 2 archived anywhere. With Apple removing Apps and App Store accessibility in iTunes 12.7 my choice was to use Apple Configurator. Subsequently I downgraded iTunes to vers. 12.6.3.6 which did restore “Apps” and access to the App Store. However, I continued to use Apple Configurator for a variety of reasons. That was until I “updated” Apple Configurator to version 2.6.1. Now Configurator no longer launches but produces an error saying iTunes needs to be updated, which I do not wish to do.

I am optimistic someone on the List has an earlier version of Apple Configurator 2 than what is offered on the App Store and would be kind enough to make it available for me to download. It will likely be less than 100MB so Dropbox or something similar would be a potential option.

I am pretty positive that Apple Configurator 2.6 will work fine so that is the version I am hoping someone could kindly make available.

Thanks a lot if someone can help. Feel free to contact me directly.

Gord

I believe Apple Configurator was only available via the app store, so it is not possible to get it from someone else.

Don't you have Time Machine backup you can restore from?

Typically, Apple software from the Mac App Store does not have copy protection so it can be used on another computer without the original Apple ID signed in to the destination computer. It couldn’t be updated through the Store but that’s not desired in this case.

It wasn’t always only available in the App Store but that is a good point as far as finding version 2.6. I may just be out of luck. I have a recollection that around version 2.4 - 2.5 is when it became App Store only but I think version 2.6 might still be able to be “shared.” I could well be mistaken about that too but I wouldn’t mind giving it a try regardless.

As for Time Machine, as fate would have it my Time Machine drive recently began failing and I was not able to recover this particular item. I have clones but of course those are current. I tried to see if I could recover it via Carbon Copy Cloner's Safety Net but have not had success with that either.

Not much help at this time BUT for the future.  Time Machine support multiple drives.  I have two separate EHD that TM writes to alternatively.  I have an associate that has 4.

Just plug in the EHD and select it in the Time Machine Preferences where you pick the drives.
Why take a chance on your one TM EHD?

Thanks for this tip. I was unaware that I could connect multiple drives for Time Machine use and it looks like a very simple setup.

It is, and it has several advantages. For example, on one machine I have an external TM machine drive that I only turn on for backups when the system starts nagging me that the disk has been missing (I think it’s 14 days?).

The regular TM runs as normal to the main disk, and the secondary disk gets one backup ever couple of weeks. Seems to work pretty well.
